Technique of Spooling line on a Reel
Переглядів 402 місяці тому
Here’s a technique of spooling line on a reel. This will work for all types of line, braid, mono, floro carbon, copolymer, etc. it works well. I use tape I don’t use a knot because when I want to take the line off the spool I don’t want to nick the spool with any type of scissors or knife or anything like that so I just use tape to make it easy to put on and easy to take off. It’s a technique. ...

Ultralight Fishing Willow Pond - fish on !!
Interesting Bought a few of these from Ali not rebaged as Dr slick. They are pretty decent for what they are compared to Abel and other expensive nippers
I saw that Ali had something similar but those have an exposed spring - but they do have a clasp lock of which I wish the Dr Slick would have had. Maybe it’s 6’s - I don’t know if the Ali has the repair kit parts though.
Bottom feeder!
I buy ugly sticks as I had four kids and it is just habit. I try to get the best reel I can afford, but no hundred dollar reels for me. As for line, it is very important, to include a mono lead at the end. We all fish the same and life is good. I edited this to also say, take your reel apart and lube it regularly. Then you know what you have.
The Ugly Sticks used to be so damn good ... like an industry leader back in the 80's --- but something happened where they've become so crazy heavy compared to others out there - and the line ... for the love ... the line is a whole different story these days - to where you have to read and invest so much time to even understand what's out there and how it all matters to the experience. And -- the reels are now really designed around the line types - it's crazy -- and you are right about the reel prices and qualities - that's a whole different aspect to understand if a $100 reel is really worse than a $400 reel.
Nice review! Looks like a nice braid cutter!! Thanks!
And -- from what I've seen on the Amazon ... they make an offset version of this trimmer of which I would have origionally bought... I had no idea.
What Is the Squiggly stuff that you light to start the chimney? I usually use newspaper but it doesn't always work the first time.
This is similar to what I use - amzn.to/3RPlksC
Would you use it any other way except steak?
It's commonly used as a replacement for butter -- so where ever butter goes... Ghee can go. But -- it's really good where you need a high smoke point.
There are a couple other brands out there with clear plastic windows. Mightr be nice to be able to see what lure is on the rod.
That's a good thought -- but for some reason I just don't like the plastic -- maybe if they even went with a bit of a translucent thin white nylon weave, that would be a better option.
What kind of rod is that?
It’s the Tsurinoya Elf - ua-cam.com/video/yz11uMrYmgA/v-deo.htmlsi=2dTdcdLGE0h5-CaX
Interesting! That's a useful accessory! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thinking about buying one of those right now
Get one - they are cheap and if not liked you can return it or keep it in the car as a backup - use only mono - don’t use braid - not a good braid reel.
@@JSturr have you tried a Daiwa version of this
Or the abu gsrcia
@@joshuasingleton1090 No I haven’t - but I’ve been close - the Daiwa stuff is hard to find - more so than the others.. will you try one ??
@@joshuasingleton1090I bought an old Abu series - but I haven’t used it yet. Found one on the eBay.
Way to go all in! Do you use the system for professional work?
No -- as one of the performance factors of pro work for me is resolution - and given the uneducated factors of the client, I like to give them the biggest of the big so they can manipulate at will without the limitations of having to worry about dpi etc ... as best as possible.
That’s BFS country right there! Bam next time throw a natural color spoon just saying 😅
You're exactly right -- toward the end I thru a small Castmaster, silver in color, and It started to lead to a bit of a saving grace -- but the end of the day was coming and I was getting a bit burned out.
Take up another hobby ,fishing isn't your sport.
Small victories win wars !!
That's pretty harsh. Fishing is an activity , which is done for different reasons than a sport
I think mine was called Zebco Legacy 11TL combo from 1996 Walmart for $8 each work good to now. The price us still like the cheeper stuff still available nice and cheep
1:18 "...there's very little depth of field because it's a small lens, small sensor, small aperture... everything." This does not compute... Small sensors with small apertures generate huge depth of field. that's what makes them feel more like instant cameras.
You are correct - I mis-spoke and what I should have said was a "limited shallow depth of field" ... Thanks.
I’ve owned a v3 for 3years, I need lenses 😩 I am in Nigeria, imagine converting dollar to our currency it’s real crazy getting this lenses
I'm sorry my friend but I'd take the 33 all day long!❤

@@JSturr bless you always!
Where fo I buy these from, is it just from the Mule website? If do I can buy from there and have a friend brine it over to Europe for me. Love the divider side and REALLY love the foam side, seems a perfect size for my ultra light kit/setup
Yes - just from Mule’s web site - but …. AliExpress has many comparative products of which are very similar - you will have to search and see what you will find - but they are there.
Here’s a link which may help your location - Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! $2.97 | Portable Fishing Bait Box Waterproof Bait Lure Hook Boxes Compartments Shockproof Adjustable Partition Fishing Gear Accessories a.aliexpress.com/_mK7xcme
Me and my 5 yr old are new to fishing. I bought this for him because it is light. It reels up counterclockwise. Why? Is there a way to switch this around?
I’ve never noticed … interesting as that may explain my line twist when spoiling it up… for the love of… let me know what you find out as I’m sure it can’t be changed with this reel.
I hand make wooden fishing lures. I put a waterslide decal on almost all mine... and mine aren't even for sale!
Great minds think alike -- I can't believe this is even an issue. Yet ... it is.
I have both and the Pfleuger is HANDS DOWN a better product. That being said, the 33 Gold Trigger-spin it's a great, affordable little reel.
I agree - I'm trying now to get my hands on a Lew's Speed Cast Triggerspin -- but they are difficult to obtain for some reason ... really weird.
I've got a Daiwa 40XD coming in I'm interested to try. I like the trigger-spins.
@@jaylundberg1118 Let me know what you think of that -- I'm really interested in the Diawa's ... but they look like something from the 80's... go figure.
I've been fishing for over 40 years and still don't understand why someone would need a reverse when you have a drag system. Or all you need to do is push the button and let the line out. A lot of the manufacturers are removing that because it's just another area for water and dirt to get in to the housing.
Good comment - point taken.
I saw a reddish brown tall device holding your chimney what is that?
That’s an outdoor chimney for small decorative fires - you load up the base where I put the charcoal starter with some wood and then fire it up.
@@JSturr right on! I like that cool thanks
I think the rod is the most important and it is the hardest to find the right one for the job. The reel doesn’t influence as much.
I agree - but after using the Zebco Cardinals compared to the Garcia Revo - I don’t use the Cardinals any more - which is a bit of a bummer as I loved the Cardinals.
I think I paid $35 for a Sougayilang BFS rod. I know that's very cheap , but it works well with my Zephyr. My favorite spinning rods are my Finwicks. Very sensitive. The first fishing setup I ever bought was a red Abu Garcia Cardinal combo. It was cool. The closest thing I see now is a $200 red Abu Revo Rocket .....idk. I like my Okuma reels for ultralight stuff.
@@davidarwood6264 With the availability of AliExpress I'm less focused on expensive as I used to be -- I have $30 rods which are incredible ... you just have to search out the really good inexpensive stuff -- and that can be a trick.
@@JSturr I only have a couple that I paid around $70. The rest are around $30. Yeah , there some gems out there though. I literally happened upon a 50% off sale on all at a Guns and Ammo place since Ilast commented. I didn't even know they had fishing gear. I just went crazy buying stuff. Nearly everything light and ultralight was gone though.
@@davidarwood6264 I really try to focus on the number of guides and the weight of the rod -- also ... if it's not a 2-piece rod then I don't purchase - 2-piece is so important to me so that's really the #1 requirement when I'm looking. Well -- all aspects are important when deciding.
a new v4 camera + xqd would go insane right about now
I’ve been thinking of getting a Z50 or Z6ii as of late … or a really beat up D850 - we’ll see….
Nice. I just picked up the cheaper version with sleeve bushings instead of bearings (1500 x plus) Similar condition too. Maybe some one used it once, was turned off by a nasty backlash and never touched it again . I know modern reels are probably better but i like the feel of a metal frame. Dont care for the direction Shimano went in the late 80's. B mag, Crestfire etc.
I just got another one of these on the eBay - never been used - can’t wait to get it on the water !
Yo no se si todas las Pflugers tienen ese problema, pero la mia también lo hace
I think it's a design issue - from what I've been told, the assembly just sits in the body of the reel and isn't attached to the body and so it has a tendency to move around. Go figure ...
I had a micro elite afew years ago, it was a nice little reel until it started grinding abit, after that i stopped using it untill i decided to use it with a cat toy to play with my cats, my dog grabbed the cat toy and walked across the yard and it somehow desintigrated the main gear in the reel, it broke into like 20 pieces so the reel became useless.
Thanks for the heads up -- we'll see how it lasts in the long run - hopefully they will graduate to something else as they get more of the bug to do more fishing. The choices were very modest when we purchased.
@@JSturr yup, anything shimano is the way to go for ul reels imo
Phenix iron feather may be thinner then daiwa j braid 8x (im not sure), silk ocean PE .4 is .04mm and it is supposedly 12lb test, i ordered some .8 to try it and the .8 is 18.1lb it is .09 mm very expensive though, 63$ for 400m.
Good to know - the thinner the better and hopefully it performs well -- I'm also becoming a big fan of fluorocarbon on the baitcasters of late - it's so nice to have a line which really bucks the wind really, really well.
@JSturr yeah, I'll be honest I kind of hate fluro I never use it, it's expensive, and so much weaker then mono, after it's been stretched near it's breaking point even once it becomes like 20% weaker and how I fish I will sometimes hook into a 3lb bass or 7+lb channel cat on ul so the only line I use is braid and mono, can't take the chance of breaking off on such a big fish the other day I landed 2 2.5lb bass on 3lb mono, with fluro it most definitely would of broken
I haven't had any issues of late - but I'll keep your experiences in mind -- I'm using Seguar as of late and it has been performing really well - so far I'm a big fan - caught 6 Rainbow Trout this weekend and it worked just great.
@JSturr that's good that you aren't having any issues. Hopefully, it stays that way. The fluro I tried wash berkley Vanish and seagar Red Label so try and stay away from those 2, I hated both of them

Nice Video! Busy day on the water! Always good to get outdoors and enjoy nature! Thanks for sharing!

This rod is far from an ultralight. The four piece presso is a light bass rod at best. The two piece presso’s are much better rods for ultralight fishing.
Thanks for the info -- the Rod market is an interesting one, where all is not what it sometimes seems.
I get it every year too! Great box

2 m & 1-6 g?
AVG562C - 0.8-5g Line wt: 1-4lb --- so 5'6" two piece.
I got one of the silver one for 18 bucks at walmart and love it such a fun reel. My 500 spining reels always get tangled up and this thing never has a problem im in love with it for blue gill bait fishing.❤
Very nice!
This my first time seeing the redesigned underspin. I have numerous older models. Gotta say the new one looks super cheap. Im guessing the innards are exactly the same but the older models looked much higher quality. I feel you on the weight. Real heavy. About that loose fit. You probably know this but the entirety of the internals are not anchored to the body in any way. The rear section is locked into the body by the handle and the drag wheel to a lesser degree.
Thanks for the comment - I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge as I didn't know the extent of their internal design as you have described. I really wanted to buy last years model -- was going to order it online as it was about $15.00 cheaper than retail -- yet ... when I went to the Sportman's Warehouse the sales man pointed out to how the spool cover was totally enclosed vs. the older model ... and that really sold me in order to keep any dirt etc out of the driveline... everything else appears to be the same -- but as you mentioned -- the thing is so crazy heavy ... and their design cues are a bit flawed -- surprisingly flawed.
@JSturr the previous model has slots cut in the cone that give it the appearance of not being sealed. But there is a clear plastic cover inside the cone that goes behind those slots and I'm pretty sure it's sealed. Honestly, there's a gaping hole at the front of the cone where most of the contaminants enter so the difference is negligible. If I can find some older stock I'm going to buy as many as I can.
Here they are on their web site -- www.pfluegerfishing.com/president-spincast-reel-1447418?variant=1430536 - for $29.99 But -- help me understand why you think the older model is better -- other than the cutouts for maybe saving some weight ??
@JSturr the internals might be the same in every way. I'm mostly commenting about the aesthetics. The new model reeks of cost cutting. It looks cheap. The old model looked as premium as a closed face reel can be. I may buy a couple of both and do a comparison. Either way, this is one of the most fun reels to fish with. Thousands of rapid fire casts all day.
@@davidnewton3064What line and pound test are you running on it ??
Got one today at Turner's Hunting, along with a Shimano Nasci 500, strung with 100 yrds of 2#, can't wait to put this combo to use!
Let me know how it goes -- it's a great rod, and with the Nasci it should be awesome.
I bought a 5 foot 1 piece for my Zebco 33 Micro. I think it's going to be good after casting a few times in my back yard.
Nice - what line are you happy with on the Zebco ?
can you use 5lb nano braid on that reel?
I don’t know if these type of reels will work very well with that crazy thin braid … I would say no … but it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try and see what happens.

I totally agree - I got a bit lucky being able to find them on closeout for $65 a piece … I’ve got two now … and they are two piece… which is so rare.

Thanks for the comment -- but I don't agree ... as these are tools for the fisherman, and I wish Zebco would take their craft a bit more seriously and try to own the market a bit better in their space. They have the history and potential to do some great things - but it seems they are a bit lost in their goal.
@@JSturrNew ain't always better. Remember folks still like the vw beetle better the caddie. You didn't explain why you returned the 33 to Walmart. Suggest less pessimistic and maybe gain viewers.😊
@@pawpaw5717 Good comments -- the Silver edition had less bearings than the Gold -- so I returned the Silver thinking/knowing that the Gold would perform overall much better - and the Gold has performed much better.

Yes -- you are correct . . . Moon makes some great products - I'm a big, big fan !!
I've yet to come across a Tombow pencil I didn't like; the same applies to Mitsubishi and (especially) Kitaboshi.
